The Back Story.

Three months after my husband crossed over into the spiritual world, I ventured back out into the physical world. It was a beautiful late July day. I was soaking up the sun, contemplating, sketching, and journaling at a picnic table, in a not too far away town. This had been one of our favorite parks, surrounded by towering trees, with a little pond nearby. In only two weeks, “we” were going to be blessed with the birth of another grandson. I looked up into the heavens, framed by lush green leaves dappled in sunshine, and posed a question to this husband of mine who had transitioned into another realm.

“What do you want your grandchildren to know about you?”

Within minutes, my journals’ blank pages were being filled with words. Not mine. His. Through my hand – came his conversation. The message was very clear: “I am right here beside you.” I still have that journal, and hold it close to my heart. That experience was a humble testament to how closely we are ‘connected’ even when they are not ‘here’ physically. In Dear One, I intertwined Dale’s message “I am right here beside you”, with what my conversation will hopefully look like when it is my time to cross over: “I will always, always love you.”

Grief or loss, is an unexplainable experience on so many levels. As a grandparent, I wonder how can I respond to a young child who asks ‘Where did grandpa go?’. Children are the epitome of innocence and transparency. We, as adults, have much to learn from them, as we are the ones who sometimes close that door to passing, all too strongly! This book – is for all of us – not ‘just’ for grandchildren. It is for anyone suffering from heart-wrenching loss: children, sons, moms, sisters, dads, adults, parents, brothers, daughters, grandparents…anyone, searching for comfort and connection.

Dear One tenderly invites us to discover what dialogue between the living and the spirit world can look like. Its soulful message directs us to look to nature to find our loved ones, as we continue our own life journey, with gentleness and mindfulness.

A book of few words, Dear One whispers in your ear “I am right here beside you.”

A Note from the Author

I have been creative since – forever. When I was young, I would rake fresh-cut grass into lines and walls for imaginary house plans. When I ‘grew up’, I lived in the world of designing and home building, eventually using my own two hands, alongside my husbands’, to build our own homes. Life became more ‘colorful’ when a passion for the arts and clay rocked my world. I began using pottery as my soul message, which clearly resonated for families grieving the loss of loved ones. Slowly, working with those grieving, carving clay into stoneware urns became my business.

Then, it got more personal.

Grief and loss became my life lesson. Multiple times.

Now, I own Soul Work, whose name came to me in the middle of the night, which I will say “is par for the course at this point in my life”.

My work spans from carving, exhibiting, mentoring, workshops and fiber arts, to writing at A Mindful Life.

I am indeed Living fully – carving a life. And I am not afraid to talk about “it”.

Reflection/Study Questions

At the back of the book, I put together some introspective questions. Ones that speak to the heart of the matter of loss and grief.
Share with those around you, and unravel those beliefs and possibly even hear the messages of the spirit world.
I promise. It won’t be scary. In fact….these reflections may cause you to laugh.
Because – as you may have heard your own self say.…”I guess I am not alone here!”  😀
Here are a couple more questions to add to the ones listed in the book:
• Have you ever had your headsets on or earbuds in, or your radio on in the car….and ‘that song’ starts playing–and you know it is your loved one sending you a message?
• Have you ever had someone come up to you and say something to you out of the blue, that was “like a message from your passed loved one“?
• Did you feel the weight of loss in the days after and just wanted to sleep it off? But while laying in bed….thoughts popped into your head like they were from your loved one?
• Do you still get messages from your loved one?
•What would your conversation with your children or grandchildren look like?
• Do you believe? – better still – Do they believe?

Living fully – one day at a time!
